a letter to dude

Dude,

You know how I used to be all disillusioned and sad about my life's direction?  Well, not anymore.  I still don't have a plan or a path.  I just love where I am.  I have the greatest group of friends, some of which I live with.  I have a wonderful family, all within driving distance.  I have a great job and an even better boss.  I have no responsibilities and no debt.

I am in the summer vacation of my life.  This feels awesome......of course, that could just be the Dayquil.

1st training run experience with HCCTWV

Last night 6 brave souls got together for a short training run (a little over 4 miles).  Everyone did a great job and special props should be given to Jeff who ran longer last night than he's ever run before.  It takes a lot of guts to push through those miles, especially when you don't have the miles under your belt already.

So, a round of applause for Jeff.
(insert clap)

Anyways, we started the run at a pretty good pace and then kept getting faster and faster.  You see, last night was less of a training run and more of a "who's the alpha male contest".  Strangely, the alpha male of our running group was/is Clayre.
Ironic?  yes.  Hilarious? yes.  Expected? yes.

Aside from the alpha male hilarity, the run was wicked fun.  The groups training runs are open to anyone at any fitness level.  Don't think you can't join in the fun just because you don't have much or any experience running.  Walk/running is a great way to get your fitness adventure started.  We meet up at the church every tues. at 8 pm and Sat. at 8am, we'd love it if you joined us.

If you havn't already, please look at our fundraising page.  World Vision is a Charity worth supporting.  So please visit the site below and consider giving.  Your donation, no matter what size, IS needed and will not be wasted.

HCCTWV

http://www.firstgiving.com/hccteamworldvision

There is a long story that follows that link but for the moment I will keep things brief.

A group of people based out of Hebron Community Church have decided to train for and run the Chicago marathon.  While the physical acheivement of such a task can (and should) be applauded that isn't the point.  The point behind this group of HCCers training for a marathon is to raise money for World Vision.  Personally, I feel very strongly about what World Vision does and I want to help that cause as much as I possible can.

I plan on turning this blog into a training diary so those interested can follow what's going on.

If you want to support HCC's very own team world vision or if you just want to support World Vision please visit the link at either the top or bottom of this post.  Thanks

"In Rand Mcnally, Hamburgers eat people"

The title of this blog is a quote from the Simpsons, I use it because it conveys the same sense of upsidedown-ism that I have been feeling lately.

This Saturday I finished my first triathlon.  Thanks to good training, nutrition, and great support from friends and family I was able to swim, bike and run my heart out.  However, this begs the question.  In what universe do I become physically active?

The same universe where hamburgers eat people.

2 months and 5 minutes.

So everyone else is posting there "Too Cold to Hold" stories, perhaps it's time I join in.

First, let me just give mad props to Sarah, Clayre, and even my arch nemesis Brandon (sorry Derek, you've been demoted) for running the 15k.  It was pretty sweet to be able to cheer you guys on.

Let me put my 5k run into prespective:

3 months ago I couldn't run 5 minutes straight without getting winded

2 months ago I ran a 5k in 28:30.

Last week I probably ran a 5k in 23:50.  (I had/have doubts about the accuracy of this time)

and this week I ran a 5k with a time of 23:28 (7th out of 34 in my age bracket) .  (I am positive this time is right)

After the 5k 2 months ago I asked Clayre what I could expect to cut my time down to.  When she replied 24:00 minutes, I thought she was crazy but I was going to try anyways.  So understand my most recent 5k time wasn't the fastest time ever (it was for me) but it feels like a monumental acheivement.

So what's next?  Perhaps a sprint triathlon

Chicago 09 marathon has recently been put on the table.
